Overview

Smile rehabilitation — sometimes called full-mouth reconstruction — is a planned programme combining several forms of treatment across the whole mouth. It may involve crowns, bridges, implants, veneers, gum treatment, orthodontics or adjustment of the bite, in a sequence determined by clinical need.

It differs from cosmetic dentistry in intent: the starting point is usually function and health — worn or damaged teeth, bite problems, previous work that has failed — with appearance addressed as part of restoring it. Planning is extensive and typically involves imaging, models and a proposed sequence before any treatment begins.

Who might consider this procedure?

People considering rehabilitation usually have several issues at once: significant wear, multiple failing restorations, missing teeth, or discomfort from the bite itself.

Assessment is thorough and may involve more than one dental discipline. Your treating dentist will establish what is required, in what order, and over what period. A proper plan should be presented and understood before you commit to travelling.

Recovery considerations

Recovery varies by the components involved. Where implants or extractions form part of the plan, those recoveries apply. Adjusting to a changed bite takes time and usually requires review appointments.

Rehabilitation is almost always a multi-visit undertaking spanning months. BTX coordinates each stage against the schedule your dentist sets, including the intervals between visits.
